Large-scale events created exclusively for Illinois Promise Scholars.

  • New Scholar Orientation
    • All new Illinois Promise Scholars are REQUIRED to attend New Scholar Orientation (NSO).  At NSO, you’ll learn about what it’s like to be an Illinois Promise student; meet your Promise Coach; connect with peers; meet our student leadership group; get critical program information; learn about a number of campus resources; and find ways to get involved with the Illinois Promise community!

  • Re-Orientation
    • Each fall semester, continuing Scholars are REQUIRED to attend a Re-Orientation session.  Re-Orientation sets out to foster Scholars’ continued connection with the program through review of the scholarship’s renewal criteria and encouraging them to make the most of the experience by engaging in the many events and programs that I-Promise has to offer.

  •  Spring Award Banquet
    • Each April, we gather Illinois Promise students, guests, and various stakeholders to celebrate the many accomplishments of our award-winning Scholars, mentors, and graduating seniors.

The I-Promise Council, our student leadership group, came about in 2018 when we combined the I-Promise RSO and Ambassadors groups.

Made up of nine continuing scholars, the Council’s charge includes:

  • Building community among Scholars by planning social, service, and academic events throughout the year
  • Engaging with donors and other stakeholders
  • Presenting information, facilitating ideas and conversations, and leading activities at various signature events throughout the year

Interested in getting involved with the Illinois Promise Council?  Talk with a current Council member and watch for the application period to open in the spring semester!

In addition to our signature events and those hosted by the Illinois Promise Council, I-Promise offers a variety of professional development opportunities to Scholars, including:

  • The Annual Business Etiquette Dinner
  • Resume and Cover Letter Assistance
  • Unique programs in partnership with The Career Center and other campus organizations
  • Sponsorship for two Scholars to attend The Institute, by LeaderShape, a nationally-recognized weeklong development program for undergraduates
  • I-Promise PRIME (Professional Readiness Integrating Mentorship and Education):  a newly developed apprenticeship-style program offering participants part-time jobs on campus with embedded professional mentors and skills-based training and continuing education modules.
