Spring Award Celebration

Each year during Moms Weekend, graduating scholars and I-Promise award recipients come together for an evening of celebration.

Award Opportunities

I-Promise proudly recognizes scholar achievement with a number of annual awards. All eligible I-Promise Scholars are encouraged to self-nominate.  In 2021, award recipients will be notified in February and honored at the Award Celebration in April.

The Emerging Leader Award recognizes graduating Illinois Promise Scholars who have demonstrated a commitment to transformational learning by engaging in internships, research, study abroad, service, and other leadership activities all while maintaining a high level of academic achievement.  Recipients are those who have enriched the Illinois community by their outstanding accomplishments, served as an example for others to follow, and pursued their vision for a most promising future. In order to be eligible, I-Promise Scholars must be graduating in May, August or December 2021 and have a minimum 3.33 cumulative grade point average.

Selected recipients will be recognized at the I-Promise Award Celebration on Friday, April 9th, 2021.  

HOW TO APPLY

  • Submissions will be accepted through Sunday, February 21st 11:59 pm.

  • To receive the self-nomination link, graduating scholars must first complete the Senior Survey.  

The Outstanding Service Award recognizes graduating Illinois Promise Scholars who have gone above and beyond to serve and advocate for others, both on and off campus, over the course of their undergraduate experience.  Recipients have invested significant time and energy in a variety of activities for the benefit of others and have exceptional commitment to causes which are important to them. In order to be eligible, I-Promise Scholars must be graduating in May, August or December 2021 and have a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average.  

Selected recipients will be recognized at the I-Promise Award Celebration on Friday, April 9th, 2021.

HOW TO APPLY

  • Submissions will be accepted by self-nomination only through Sunday, February 21st at 11:59 pm.  
  • To receive the self-nomination link, graduating scholars must first complete the Senior Survey.

The Senior Essay Contest is sponsored by former Chancellor Richard Herman and his wife, Susan.  It is Dr. Herman who created the I-Promise Scholarship in 2005.   The essay is limited to 500 words (approximately 1 page) and should address the following two questions: 1) What has attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and receiving the I-Promise scholarship meant to you? 2) What are your bold dreams for the future? The winner will have the honor of reading the essay during the I-Promise Award Celebration on Friday, April 9th, 2021 and will receive a plaque.  This award also carries a monetary value of up to $1,000 applied directly to the winner's aid package (not to exceed the cost of attendance).

The Rising Star Award recognizes I-Promise Scholars who are early in their undergraduate career and already demonstrating exceptional involvement and success in a variety of activities.   They have a sincere interest in engaging in the Illinois learning community and demonstrate a healthy balance between their academic accomplishments and their many extracurricular activities.  Rising Stars are clearly on their path toward remarkable success at Illinois and beyond. Candidates must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average at the time of nomination and may not be anticipating graduation in May, August, or December 2021.

Selected recipients will be recognized at the I-Promise Award Celebration on Friday, April 9th 2021.

The Distinguished Mentor Award recognizes the time and dedication of I-Promise Mentors who stand out for providing exceptional support for their mentee.  Recipients are those whose mentoring approach serves as a strong model for others.  A Distinguished Mentor:

  • Provides holistic support for their mentee, effectively guiding them through academic, personal, and professional experiences
  • Is actively engaged in the relationship and encourages a diverse range of interactions
  • Maintains high standards for their mentee and empowers them to achieve their goals
  • Makes a positive and lasting impact on his/her mentee

Selected recipients will be recognized at the I-Promise Award Celebration on Friday, April 9th, 2021.
