What's I-Promise?

Illinois Promise is a scholarship awarded to newly admitted students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign who have the greatest amount of financial need.

The scholarship is designed to cover a student’s cost of attendance including tuition, fees, room and board, books and supplies. The award includes a combination of grants and other aid, a limited amount of student loans, and an opportunity to earn income through employment on campus.  The I-Promise aid package supports fall and spring term enrollment only.

Support for I-Promise Scholars also involves much more than the financial award.  Scholars join a diverse community of students who benefit from uniquely tailored resources and programs throughout their time on campus.

There are over 1,100 I-Promise Scholars enrolled at Illinois.

I-Promise Scholars all meet the same eligibility criteria but represent many cultural backgrounds and study in every academic major.

Nearly ¾ of I-Promise Scholars are the first in their family to attend college.

Each fall, about 15% of new I-Promise Scholars are transfer students to Illinois.

Since 2005, the monetary gifts of hundreds of donors have made I-Promise possible.

A commitment by the campus to create an enriching and supportive educational environment that fosters personal and professional success.

A commitment by donors to open doors of opportunity for high achieving students to join the Illinois family as they make their own way toward a bright future.

A commitment by scholars, to make the most of the experience, to aspire for greatness, and to pay it forward every step of the way.
