Am I Eligible?

Initial Eligibility

Eligibility for Illinois Promise is determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid using a student’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (or FAFSA). There is no separate application for the scholarship.

Eligibility criteria are outlined at the Office of Student Financial Aid website. FAFSA submissions for all new freshmen and transfer students to Illinois are reviewed for I-Promise eligibility. Students who are not eligible for the award during their first term of enrollment are not considered for the award again.

The review process may include a request for additional verification documents. Students who have been verified as eligible to receive the award will be notified by the Office of Student Financial Aid. The I-Promise award will also be listed on a recipient’s electronic award summary.

Questions about eligibility should be directed to the Office of Student Financial Aid at 217-333-0100 or finaid@illinois.edu.

Staying Eligible

Illinois Promise funding will be provided to students for up to four years of attendance at Illinois if eligibility criteria continue to be met. Students must submit a FAFSA every year in order to be considered for renewal and must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements. The four years of eligibility for Illinois Promise begin during a student's first term of enrollment at the university and run continuously.

Questions about renewal eligibility should be directed to the Office of Student Financial Aid at 217-333-0100 or finaid@illinois.edu.
