Info for students
Did you know?
Students who participate in the Illinois Promise Mentoring Program have higher first-year grade point averages than those who opt out. Don’t miss out on this incredible chance to grow your network and develop skills for success.
- Participate in a required Match Me meeting in the fall to prepare for the mentoring experience
- Make a one-academic-year commitment and meet with mentor for a minimum of one hour per month (though most mentors and mentees meet every other week)
- Complete a Statement of Intent together at your first meeting and sign and submit it to ipromise@illinois.edu
- Have the chance to attend sponsored mentor/mentee events including a Mentor Appreciation celebration at the end of the spring term
Matching for first-year students (freshmen and transfers) takes place at the start of each academic year. Interested students must complete an online Mentee Profile Form and attend a Match Me meeting before being matched. Sessions are 50 minutes long and take place virtually by Zoom.
Though the I-Promise Mentoring Program is specifically designed to support first-year students, requests from continuing students will still be considered. Please contact Kristine McCoskey, Director, at mccoske1@illinois.edu to discuss your situation further.
